China and the Value of Human Life

This morning I heard a story from China on the news about  a 2 year old girl in China that was hit twice by two different vehicles.  Neither vehicle stopped.  She was actually run over by at least one, probably both.  For two hours cars drove by her.  Bikes rode by her.  People walked by her lifeless body laying right by the side of the road in plain view.  As a matter of fact, they had to swerve to avoid hitting her body.  For two hours.  No one stopped to help her.  People could definitely see her, but no one  helped her.

The news reporter was appalled.  She talked of the uproar this has caused around the world.  People are outraged that no one stopped and helped.  People are astonished that no one offered to help this helpless, lifeless 2 year old girl, for two hours.  I sit here wondering why his would surprise anyone.  China has very little regard for human life.  They have a policy that encourages families to have only one child.  This policy has led to a population that kills girl babies in the womb.  This policy has lead to girl babies being abandoned on the side of the road if they make it to birth.   This policy has lead to the devaluation of human life as a whole.

People can claim outrage at this latest lack of respect for human life in China, but it is not a new thing.

And where are the feminists when it comes to the infanticide and murder of at least an entire generation of girls in China?

Why are we surprised?

We as Christians need to pray for the people in China.  We need to pray for the Church in China.   But we also need to remember the holocaust of unborn babies right here in our backyard, down the street.   Daily babies are killed and it is legal, its called abortion.     We need to be active in voting, with our wallets and with our energy.

I am desperately sad for this family in China who lost their baby girl in this tragic accident, but I am also sad for the babies that are lost daily through abortion because, “It is my choice.”

We need to remember that children are a gift and blessing from God.

Proverbs 127:3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD,  The fruit of the womb is a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,  So are the children of one’s youth.  5 Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them  They shall not be ashamed,   But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
