The Sour Dough Starter, Part 2

I had such high hopes for the sourdough starter but the truth of the matter is that the sourdough starter never really got started.  Last week I had such high hopes, but by Thursday, it was clear that it was not going to become a good starter.  It went through the stinky stage and never really got past that stage.  I hope to try again in a couple of weeks.  I am not sure what the problem was, maybe we don’t have enough wild yeast floating in the air.

We are still enjoying making bread from scratch but I will admit that I am looking forward to the cooler weather so we can make it more often and not run up the a/c cost.  We still love the french bread recipe that I posted earlier.  We use that to make pizza rolls, pizza pull apart bread, and pizzas.  Yum, I think we are having pizza on Wednesday now that I write about this.

Oh and I made a yellow cake for Levi’s first birthday last week.  Oh yum was it good.  Let me go find the recipe.  http://www.marthastewart.com/342396/yellow-butter-cake  .  It was so good.  I don’t know that I can eat a boxed cake again.  What am I saying, we all know that I can eat a boxed cake anytime you bring it over.

What have you been baking and cooking recently? Do you have a suggestion for better sourdough starter?
