Sour Dough Starter From a Friend

I have been wanting to try sour dough for awhile because it is one of Sean’s favorite breads to use when making hot sandwiches.  I tried to make my own starter and had no success.  My friend Jo Ann offered to send me some so of course, I took her up on it.  She send it frozen and it arrived in the mail 2 days later.




Look at the beautiful goodness.




My beautiful, assistant, Olivia, poured the starter in the jar.  It was roughly one cup of starter.





We measured out one cup of flour and one cup of warm water to add to the starter.



She is licking her lips and we have not even baked any bread yet.




Mixing it all together, but not too much mixing.



I put the cover on loosely.  I let it sit for a day and then got rid of half of it and added equal parts of flour and water.  I continued the process for one week.  Then I started making things with the sour dough starter, including bread, donuts and brownies.



The donuts were excellent and I will share our results next month.  The brownies were horrible.  I also froze a bit of the starter in case mine failed at any point in time.
