When to Speak

I have become more and more aware of the lack of discretion in the world and the increase in rudeness in the world today.  Because we have 7 children, everyone seems to have something to say or an opinion to offer all the time.

Proverbs 10 says, "19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking,  But he who restrains his lips is wise."

The abundance of words in our house has become an issue in our home.  (I have no idea where they get it from, I never say anything I should not say. ) I have told my children, "Just because you are thinking it, does not mean you have to say it."  But, it has become apparent they don’t completely understand when its OK to say something and when it is not.  Therefore, with some help from my friends Kiersten and Carol, Sean and I came up with the following guidelines.  They have been plastered over our home, on the bathroom door, in the bedrooms, on the wall behind the sink, by the computer, by the tv, etc.

When to speak

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Before I say something, I should stop and think,

1. Is it true?
2. Is it helpful?
3. Is it necessary?

If I can answer yes to all three, then I may say it.

I have a friend who is going to make some bookmarks and posters.  When she has them ready, I will link her blog.  You can copy and paste mine if you like, use it to your hear’s delight.  It is not original to me, it is simply what I gleaned from others and Scripture.  All  Scripture is in the New King James Version.

May God bless you today.
