Thankful Thursday – Hope

2 Corinthians 5:1  For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.  So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

This week I have been very thankful for verse 8 of that passage, “to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.”  There is great hope to know that God offers the free gift of eternal life through Jesus.  Two dear friends lost family members this week, both to cancer.  I am confident that God used them until His plan for them was complete.  While I may not understand all the details, God is still good, all the time and I will trust Him and His Word in all things.

This week I was also keenly aware that people die every single day and it is not always the old people who have lived “full and complete” lives.  People are grieving every day.  We just never know anyone’s story and the day they have had.  I need to seek to be kind to all those around me.

OK,  know those are choppy thoughts, but they are what they are.  I am thankful today for all of life’s little quirks and unexpected things.
